Phewy, it has been almost two weeks since my last post. I have been busy! Not so much with photography, but with life. The weather has prevented me from shooting several weeks in a row, which has been extremely frustrating.
Kay so I have a lot of exciting things to share. I don't know if you remember, but in August I went to a photography workshop put on by Michael Andrew who is an amazing wedding photographer. He has also been an incredible mentor to me through his instructional DVD's. Anyways, he called me about three weeks ago and said he was going to Haiti, and couldn't spend another day in the states when he knew he could be down there helping. He jumped on a plane the next day, and his been down there ever since. The work he has been doing is incredible. The biggest thing that he has been doing is visiting orphanages around Port Au Prince, and assessing their needs. We have been finding their locations via the internet and giving him their GPS coordinates, so he knows exactly how to find. Long story short about 85% of the orphanages that he has visited have had ZERO contact from ANY aid agencies. This means they have not received food, water, clothing, or medical supplies from anyone. He has teamed up with the 82 Airborne, and the Salvation Army and they have agreed (after weeks of asking) to supply all of the orphanages Michael has visited with the aid they need. So incredible.
The one thing that the 82nd and the Salvation Army have asked our help with is donations to go towards water purifiers. Michael has found a factory in Port Au Prince that makes these water purifiers. Get this, they are only $30, and can supply a family with clean drinking water for 5 YEARS!!
So, I have decided that for each session I shoot in 2010, I am going to donate one water purifier on behalf of each of my clients!! I am so excited about this!!
If you would like to follow along with what Michael is doing in Haiti just follow this
LINK. They found a man yesterday that has been trapped under rubble for FOUR weeks, and he was ALIVE. Michael's image of this man has been all over CNN and the national news for the past two days. Also, if you are interested in donating a water purifier here is the
LINK for that as well!
Kay, so back to photography! This past weekend I attended an awesome workshop put on by
Amanda K Photography, with guest speaker
Brandon Perron. It was awesome! I learned a ton, and had the opportunity of meeting several incredible local photographers. The highlight for me was the two hour shoot with some STUNNING models!! Oh my goodness, can you say drop dead gorgeous!! This was beyond fun!! Here are just a few of my favorites (it was SO hard to pick which ones to edit)!!
